Desktop CNC is not one category. It runs from a 200-dollar aluminium-extrusion kit that engraves plastic to a 300kg benchtop mill that takes a real cut in steel, and the names on the listings do not tell them apart.

A 6040 is 600 x 400mm of table, not of usable cut: clamps, the gantry and Z travel take a bite out of every axis. Ask for the travel with a workholding setup in place, which is usually 40-60mm less in Y than the model name suggests.
Plenty of machines have enough Z travel on paper and not enough clearance under the gantry to fit the workpiece and the tool holder at once. Both numbers matter and only one of them is usually published.
Within a class, the heavier machine is almost always the stiffer one. Crated weight is one of the few specifications a seller cannot inflate without the freight cost giving it away.
GRBL on an Arduino-class board, a Mach3 breakout, or a closed-loop industrial controller are three different experiences. They differ in step resolution, in whether missed steps are detected, and in whether your CAM post-processor exists.
Machine tools sit in HTS Chapter 84 and the specific heading changes the duty rate. Getting this wrong at entry is expensive to correct afterwards, so it is worth settling before the goods move.
