What we check before you pay

Profile rail versus round rail

Profile rail on recirculating blocks is stiff in every direction. Round rail on open bearings is cheaper, more forgiving of a bent frame, and visibly less rigid under a side load. For metal, profile rail is not a luxury.

Ground or rolled ballscrew

Ground screws are accurate and expensive; rolled screws are cheaper with more lead error. Either beats a T8 leadscrew, whose backlash you will feel as a ridge on every direction change. Ask which, at what diameter and pitch.

How the screw ends are held

A screw with both ends floating whips at speed and loses accuracy under load. Fixed at one end and supported at the other is the minimum worth buying, and it is rarely stated in a listing.

Preload, and what it costs

A preloaded nut removes backlash and adds friction and heat. Too much preload on a light machine costs you the motor torque you were trying to keep. Ask for the preload class rather than accepting "zero backlash".

Couplers are not an afterthought

A jaw coupler absorbs misalignment and also absorbs motion. A rigid or bellows coupler transmits the position you asked for. On a machine you intend to cut metal with, this is a real choice, not a cable tie.

Sizes are a system, not parts

Rail size, block type, screw diameter, nut housing and coupler bore have to agree. We confirm the whole set against your machine before buying, because one wrong bore turns a cheap order into a second shipment.

  1. Tell us the machine, not the part Make, model and axis. The rest of the set follows from it, and guessing one part at a time is how a bore ends up wrong.
  2. Load and travel What you cut and how far each axis moves decides rail size and screw diameter before any brand is chosen.
  3. Specification in writing Rail and block type, screw class and pitch, end bearings, nut housing and coupler bore.
  4. Supplier check Whether the seller manufactures or resells, and which revision is in stock.
  5. Quote and approval The complete set, itemised, so nothing arrives missing a bearing block.
  6. Ship as one consignment Heavy for its size and easy to consolidate with a machine or spares order.
